Visnjic
addressed the media expressing his support for general Gotovina and
hope that the Hague Tribunal, ICTY, would acquit him and General Markac
of all the charges.
“I have come here to express my support. I have decided to come here now because I was convinced that they would be acquitted of charges,” Visnjic said during a trial break.
Generals Gotovina and Makrac were sentenced to 24 and 18 years in prison, respectively, for war crimes against Krajina Serbs committed during the Croatian army offensive know as Operation Storm [Oluja] in summer of 1995.
Visnjic said that after hearing the arguments presented by Gotovina’s defence and the response of the prosecution, he was optimistic about the final outcome of the trial.
The actor stated that he was a volunteer during the Croatian war, adding that he was in Sibenik when the war began.
“My mother's home village in Croatia was liberated during Operation Storm [Oluja]. Ante Gotovina deserves credit for that,” Visnjic said.
During this hearing, Visnjic said that he was more emotional than Gotovina.
